PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

To prevent pathological scars, it is advisable to start treatment as soon as the stitches are removed.

  1. Physiological scars

    • Immature:
Forms in the first 6-12 months, appears red, may be itchy or painful and slightly raised. This phase is crucial for treatment.
    • Mature:
Stabilizes after about a year, becoming flat and light in color. Once mature, it can no longer be modified.
  2. Pathological scars

    • Hypertrophic:
Red, itchy or painful, remains within the margins of the original wound.
    • Keloid:
Extends beyond the boundaries of the original incision. In both cases, it is essential to promptly consult the Plastic Surgeon to start treatment.

  1. Silicone sheets and patches

    • Cut a strip suitable for the size of the scar and apply it every evening for at least 6 months.
  2. Total sun protection 50+

    • Apply an SPF 50+ sunscreen to the scar daily, even in bad weather, to prevent pigmentation.
  3. Scar massage

    • Massage vigorously with a moisturizing cream two to three times a day for at least several months, until the scar is soft and similar to the surrounding skin.
